Terms of Use
Version 1.0, in effect from 23 October 2026. Effective date: 23 October 2026.
1. About these terms
1.1 Astro Journal is run by Troy Saint Laurent (ABN 79 421 185 475), based in Victoria, Australia ("we", "us", "our").
1.2 These terms apply when you use our website or create an account, wherever you live. By creating an account or using the timeline, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
1.3 If you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission to use the service. If we ever offer paid plans, a parent or guardian needs to make or approve any purchase.
1.4 Wherever you live, the law may give you consumer rights that no contract can take away. Nothing in these terms limits them. Section 10 sets out the main ones, and section 11 covers some extra rights in particular countries.
2. What we provide
2.1 Astro Journal works out a personal astrological timeline from your date, time and place of birth. It shows the periods when the planets make significant contacts with your birth chart, with written readings for those periods, a page about your birth chart, and a private journal for recording entries against your timeline. Your timeline and journal aren't shown to anyone else (for a reader under 18, a parent or guardian can ask us for a copy, as our Privacy Policy explains).
2.2 The service runs on our website, astrojournal.com.au. It's free for now (section 8).
3. What astrology is, and what it isn't
3.1 Our timeline and readings are astrological interpretation, offered for reflection, self-understanding and enjoyment. They aren't statements of fact, and they aren't predictions that something will or won't happen. When a reading describes something that might happen, it's a possibility to consider, not a promise or a warning.
3.2 We work out planetary positions and dates from astronomical data and take care to get them right. The meaning we give them is interpretation, drawn from published astrological writing and our own editorial choices. Other astrologers may read the same chart differently.
3.3 Our content isn't medical, psychological, legal, financial or other professional advice. For important decisions about your health, relationships, money, work or safety, please talk to a qualified professional rather than relying on a reading.
3.4 If you're going through a hard time, support is available. In Australia you can call Lifeline on 13 11 14, any time. Elsewhere, findahelpline.com lists free, confidential support lines in many countries. If you or someone else is in danger, call your local emergency number.
4. Your account
4.1 You sign in with your email address. Each time, we email you a code that signs you in; there's no password. Anyone who can read your email could sign in, so please keep your email account safe. If you think someone else has used your account, choose "Sign out everywhere" on your account page and let us know at troysaintlaurent@gmail.com.
4.2 Please give accurate information and keep it up to date.
4.3 One account holds one timeline. If you work out a new timeline, for example with corrected birth details, it replaces the old one.
5. Your birth details
5.1 Your timeline is only as accurate as the birth details you enter, and birth time matters most: a time that's a few minutes out can change your chart and move, add or remove periods. We can't check your details, so please enter them as accurately as you can.
5.2 If you enter someone else's birth details, you need their permission.
5.3 We keep your birth details so we can extend or rebuild your timeline later without asking you again. Your birth time and birthplace are kept encrypted, and everything is deleted when you delete your account. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly what we keep and why.
6. How your timeline improves over time
We keep improving our calculations and our writing, so the wording of your readings may change, and as our methods improve a period may be added, removed or re-dated. We make these changes to improve accuracy and quality. If you've paid for something and a change means it no longer does what we said it would, section 10 applies.
7. Your journal entries
7.1 The journal entries you add are yours. You let us store and sync them and show them to you, and that's all we use them for. We won't use them for research or to develop our service unless we ask you and you agree.
7.2 They're saved with your account, encrypted, and in the browser on each device you use. If you use a shared device, sign out when you finish.
7.3 Please don't record other people's private details, such as their health, in your notes.
7.4 We look after your journal carefully, but if something is important to you, it's worth keeping your own copy too. You can download your journal from your account page at any time.
8. If we introduce paid plans
8.1 Astro Journal is free for now. There are no prices, and we don't take payments.
8.2 If we introduce paid plans or purchases, we'll first update these terms and our Privacy Policy and date them, and give you at least 30 days' notice. Before you buy anything, we'll show you the price and what you get, and we'll never charge you without your express agreement.
9. Refunds
9.1 There's nothing to refund while the service is free. If we introduce paid plans, the refund terms will be set out under section 8.2 before you can buy, and they'll never take away your rights in sections 10 and 11.
10. Your consumer rights
10.1 In Australia, our services come with guarantees that can't be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. They must be provided with due care and skill, be fit for any purpose we agreed on, and be delivered within a reasonable time.
- If there's a major failure, you can cancel and get a refund for the unused part, or compensation for the drop in value.
- If the failure isn't major, you can ask us to fix it within a reasonable time. If we don't, you can cancel and get a refund for the unused part.
- You can also claim compensation for any other loss or damage that could reasonably have been foreseen.
10.2 In New Zealand, you have similar rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
10.3 Everywhere else, you keep the consumer rights your own law gives you.
10.4 Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes these rights. If anything here conflicts with them, those rights win.
11. Extra rights in some countries
11.1 The EU, EEA and UK: you can cancel any purchase within 14 days of buying it and get a full refund, without giving a reason. Email troysaintlaurent@gmail.com, and we'll refund you within 14 days using the same payment method.
11.2 California: you can contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs, in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by phone on (800) 952-5210.
12. Using the service fairly
12.1 The service is for your own personal use. You're welcome to share a screenshot or a short quote from your own timeline, for example with friends or on social media.
12.2 You agree not to:
(a) copy, republish or sell our readings, titles or other content, beyond sharing your own as in 12.1;
(b) use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to access the service or collect content or data from it;
(c) use our content to train or build an AI model, or a competing product;
(d) reverse engineer or decompile the service, or try to extract its source code or calculation methods, except as the law allows;
(e) interfere with the service or its security, or try to get into someone else's account or information;
(f) use the service for anything unlawful, or to harass or harm anyone.
12.3 It's up to you to make sure your use of the service is lawful where you live. If these rules are broken, section 15 applies.
13. Who owns what
13.1 The website, software, calculation methods, design and our written content (including readings, titles and descriptions) belong to us or to those who license them to us. The timeline, readings and chart page we make for you are our work, and they're yours to view and use under these terms. Your journal entries stay yours (section 7).
13.2 This doesn't reduce your privacy rights. Information about you, including your chart, is covered by our Privacy Policy, and you can still see it, get a copy of it or have it deleted.
13.3 Our readings draw on published astrological works, which belong to their authors and publishers. We write our own text rather than reproducing theirs. If you think anything on our site infringes your rights, email troysaintlaurent@gmail.com and we'll look into it promptly.
13.4 We're always glad to hear ideas and suggestions. If we use one, we don't pay for it.
13.5 Place data comes from GeoNames (geonames.org), licensed under CC BY 4.0. Planetary positions are calculated using the DE440 ephemeris from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
14. Keeping the service running
14.1 We aim to keep the service available and working well, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example during maintenance or because of problems outside our control.
14.2 Apart from your rights in sections 10 and 11, the promises we make about the service are the ones in these terms.
14.3 We may change, add or remove features. If a change significantly reduces something you've paid for, we'll tell you, and you can cancel and get a refund for the unused part.
14.4 If we ever close the service, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and refund the unused part of anything you've paid for in advance. You can download your journal, birth details and timeline from your account page until the day it closes.
14.5 Our site may link to other websites. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content.
15. Closing an account
15.1 You can stop using the service at any time, and delete your account yourself from your account page, or ask us to by emailing troysaintlaurent@gmail.com. We then delete your information as our Privacy Policy describes.
15.2 We may suspend or close an account if someone seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or if the law requires it. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to put things right. If we close your account when you haven't broken these terms, we'll refund the unused part of anything you've paid for in advance.
16. Responsibility
16.1 Nothing in this section limits your rights in sections 10 and 11, or any responsibility the law doesn't allow us to limit, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, and for fraud.
16.2 Subject to 16.1, we're not responsible for:
(a) decisions you make, or things you do or don't do, because of a reading or your timeline;
(b) loss that couldn't reasonably have been foreseen when you started using the service.
16.3 Subject to 16.1, our total responsibility to you for anything connected with the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or A$100, whichever is greater.
16.4 Where your local law doesn't allow limits like those in 16.2 and 16.3, they apply only as far as it does.
17. Changes to these terms
17.1 We may update these terms when our service, the law or our business changes. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice of any change that meaningfully affects you, by email or with a notice on the site. The date of the current version is always at the top.
17.2 If you don't agree with a change, you can stop using the service and delete your account before it takes effect, and we'll refund the unused part of anything you've paid for in advance.
17.3 A change won't take away something you've already paid for, and won't apply to a disagreement that started before it.
18. Disagreements and general terms
18.1 Talk to us first. If something goes wrong, email troysaintlaurent@gmail.com. Most things can be sorted out quickly, and we aim to reply within 14 days. You can also contact a consumer protection body where you live, such as Consumer Affairs Victoria in Australia or the European Consumer Centre in your EU country.
18.2 These terms are governed by the law of Victoria, Australia. If you live outside Australia, you also keep the protection of your own country's mandatory consumer laws.
18.3 Either of us may bring proceedings in the courts of Victoria. You may also bring proceedings in the courts where you live, if your law allows it.
18.4 We'll contact you at the email address on your account. You can contact us at troysaintlaurent@gmail.com.
18.5 If any part of these terms can't be enforced, only that part is removed, and the rest still applies.
18.6 If we don't enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
18.7 You can't transfer your account or these terms to anyone else. We may transfer them to someone who takes over the service; we'll tell you if we do, and it won't reduce your rights.
18.8 We're not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as an outage at one of our hosting or email providers, internet or power failures, or natural disasters. This doesn't affect any refund sections 10 and 11 give you.
18.9 These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.
18.10 These terms are in English. If we provide a translation and the two differ, the English version applies, unless your law says otherwise.
18.11 "Including" means "including but not limited to". Headings are for convenience only.
18.12 Sections 10, 11, 13, 16 and 18 continue to apply after your account is closed.
